“It’s not as painful to absorb a sad story in song” says Valerie June in the Volt 13 feature. Stories are the only enchantment possible, for when we begin to see our suffering as a story, we are saved, to say it in Anaïs Nin’s words.

The truth is that our stories reveal our perception of life, our outlook and our place in the world. All the world is a stage but it would be nothing without a good story as well. And when it comes to Valerie June, she’s just the best a stage can get – a powerful performer and authentic storyteller all in one artist, with a delta-blues-style retro sound that left us breathless.

Valerie June’s new album was released May the 6th. Volt Café is proudly introducing the film by Pascal Bergamin, two minutes of sheer beauty and visual poetry delivered in a Southern accent. Listen to Valerie June’s solo and don’t forget to breathe!
