Volt has admired Misty Miller ever since she performed at Volt and F.TAPE’s Get Crystallized exhibition at Swarovski back in February 2010. Interviewing her for Icons in the Volt 09 issue in December 2010 just confirmed what an inspiration she is. Hailing from South West London, Misty has been writing her own songs since the age of eight. Her inspirations are so up our street – what’s not to like about someone who lists Patti Smith, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Irma Thomas and The Sonics as just a few of her favourites? Misty’s eclectic taste has clearly informed a lot of her music to date. Aged just 15 she recorded her first album, which sold 60,000 copies. Having now signed to Sony label Relentless, she is set to release the Girlfriend EP on 25th February, a collection of songs that finds her embracing the gritty sound of 70’s rock’n’roll.
Burberry used her cover of Happy Together as the opening track in their A/W13 show, which suited the clothes and ambience perfectly, Misty’s voice injecting that indefinable extra that makes you realise this is a very special moment.
