What could be better than flying to a foreign land to attend one of the most incredible boutique festivals in the world? Meadows In The Mountains is unique in every way, from the music performances to the landscape it’s set in. Here’s Volt Cafe’s guide to this year’s Meadows In The Mountains.
A – ADVENTURE
Make the whole experience an adventure – not just the festival. There’s a door-to-door party bus service that will take you to and from the festivals, Meadows’ style. Stopping along the way for traditional Bulgarian food and drink, you won’t want the journey to end.
B – BURNING MAN
Thanks to brothers Damian and Benjamin Sasse, Meadows in the Mountains is like the lovechild of their imagination and their experiences at Burning Man. With affiliated art collectives and installations scattered around the Meadows’ site, expect no shortage of incredible art.
C – CLOUDS
It is now possible to walk in the sky. Meadows in the Mountains not only offers astonishing mountain scenery and landscapes, it’s literally floating above the clouds.
D – DIONNE REID
Thanks to Love Is The Law magazine, an incredible showcase of musical talent will be put on throughout the weekend. Dionne Reid will be a highlight, with her sweet sounding vocals fusing with her incredible energy and enthusiasm, makes her and her live band a must see.
E – ECO
There’s nothing better than being green. Meadows’ respects the local village life, and expect lots of food grown and made in the local area.
F – FRIENDLY FACES
Small festivals are the perfect place to meet like-minded people. Explore both your own, and others’ human consciousness and open yourself up to the ideas of the other Meadows’ goers.
G – GARO
Argentinian-born Garo runs a radio show called ‘Cultura Electronica’ which broadcasts the best of the global electronic scene. Make sure to catch his DJ set for an amazing set of incredible electronic beats.
H – HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE
Transport yourself back to when times were easier and travel wasn’t so rushed by travelling in style in a horse and carriage. Sit back, relax and unwind as the horses transport you through the mountains.
I – INTIMATE
The stunning setting and intimate ethos is what makes Meadows’ unique. Set high above the clouds, it forms a home away from home with its uniquely intimate ethos and friendly festivalgoers.
J – JANE FITZ
East London DJ Jane Fitz will be ramping the party up with her signature party starting sets. With a natural aptitude for house music, she travels the world, sharing her passions for the genre, making a pit stop at Meadows.
K – KELE LE ROC
One of the most recognizable voices in the UK Soul/R&B/House and Garage, Kele Le Roc, is making an appearance at this years’ Meadows in the Mountains. With 2 MOBO awards, incredible success from her studio albums and collaborations with Basement Jaxx, Courtney Pine and Shy FX, expect incredible sounds from Kele Le Roc.
L – LOCALS
One of the best things about Meadows is how involved it is with the local community. Ride a local horse and cart taxi, eat local food and indulge in Bulgaria’s home-brewed beers, wines and mountain spirits. Embrace the culture!
M – MOUNTAINS
Spectacular scenery is something Mountains is not short of. Set in the Rhode Mountains of Bulgaria, the beautiful village of Polkonik Serafimovo is home to Meadows in the Mountains. If you like nature, beautiful scenery and escapism, this is the festival for you.
N – NATURAL SPRINGS AND WATERFALLS
To add to the beautiful mountains and amazing surroundings are the natural thermal springs and waterfalls surrounding the Meadow’s site. Take a few minutes away from the festival to enjoy their tranquility and serenity.
O – ORPHEUS POOL PARTY
The incredible Orpheus pool party is the last stop for the majority of Meadowers before everyone makes their way back to reality. The spa hotel has amazing mineral springs that filter into pools, with treatments to help revitalize your mind and soul. Oh, and there’s also a pool party, jacuzzi royal rumble and a club underneath the hotel.
P – PREHISTORIC
The ancient forests that surround the Meadows’ site has spawned creativity and helped the explosion of the conscious magical mind. You’ll be visiting what was home to prehistoric man and ancient Thracian explorers as well as the Byzantines, who reveled in the beauty of the land and danced naked under the moonlight to celebrate the Gods who created that kingdom.
Q – QUANTIC
Make sure you don’t miss Quantic with his tropical fusion of soul, electronic and latin music. Also know as Will Holland, this musician, producer and DJ, Quantic has developed a unique sound that fuses traditional Caribbean music with progressive techniques and funky electronic waves.
R – REMOTE
Apart from the village Meadows’ is based around, there’s not a building to be found apart from ramshackle houses and some wandering goats. Revel in the remoteness of the location and forget about the city for a while.
S – SUN
Get yourself ready to bask in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that form over the Rhodopes Mountains. Dance in the light of dawn and dusk to some of the best un-signed (and well-known) artists from around the world.
T – THE TURBANS
Bringing their modern but traditional near-Eastern sound are The Turbans, an international musical collective who are known for their mind-blowing energetic performances. With reverence for their sound’s ancient roots, they fade eastern-Europeans styles and original compositions to create sounds you’ll never forget.
U – UNSIGNED AND UNDERGROUND MUSIC
Meadows’ is famous for its supporting and nurturing of the best new and emerging musical talent. From all around the world un-signed acts will be making their way to Bulgaria to perform at Meadows. Don’t miss out.
V – VIEWS
There is no better festival for astonishing views. Take a moment to soak up the beauty of the mountains and enjoy dancing ’til the sun comes up in the best festival setting in the world.

Z – MOUNTAINS ZIP LINE
If you’re feeling brave, try the mountain zip wire. The infamous Meadows death slide and downhill bobsleigh will have your heart pumping – if you’re brave enough to give them a go.
