Test Presents and Town Hall Hotel are proud to announce polymathic set/props designer and illustrator Gary Card as the tenth co-host in their series of film screenings and talks. If you’re not exactly sure what Gary Card does, go to his blog. This latter-day renaissance man is equally at ease gently mocking the concept of hipsterdom (while freely admitting he probably ticks all the boxes) for GQ Style, creating an amazing live mural for Joseph on site without losing his nerve or painstakingly covering a model in fish and crustaceans for a Richard Burbridge shoot for T Magazine.

Each month, Test Presents invite a different guest presenter to select and screen a film that’s been a source of their inspiration and Card has chosen David Cronenberg’s eighties sci-fi body horror Videodrome.

Cronenberg’s work has had a profound effect on me over the years’ says Card. ‘Underneath the gloss of my commercial work is the dark influence of his films. Videodrome is a perfectly succinct document of everything I love about him. It’s weird, seedy and a total brain scramble of an idea.’

Card will follow in the footsteps of previous co-hosts including designers Peter Jensen, Richard Nicoll, Roksanda Ilicnic, Gentlewoman editor Penny Martin and filmmaker Lisa Immordino Vreeland (Diana Vreeland’s granddaughter-in-law) by introducing the film and discussing its influence followed by a post-screening audience Q & A.

The film will screen on Thursday 3rd May at 7.30pm at the Council Chamber Screening Room, Town Hall Hotel, Bethnal Green. All guests attending will receive complimentary drinks courtesy of Peroni and tickets priced at an unbelievable £5 (how do they do this???) are available to buy at http://www.etickets.to/buy/?e=8247

This event is pretty much unmissable. We’re so lucky to live in London! Swanky hotel, a major creative sharing his inspiration, a cult screening AND a Peroni beer for the price of what would barely get you a muffin and a latte at Starbucks?! Amazing.
