‘Fashion is a big bubble, and sometimes I feel like popping it.’ Thus said the mischievous Alexander McQueen and as V&A’s Friday Late celebrates the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, one of the attractions will be Obsidian Air: An Edible Bubble Experience by AVM Curiosities.
Inspired by Alexander McQueen’s focus on texture and theatricality, AVM Curiosities present London’s first completely edible bubbles. This interactive installation takes a murky black liquid and transforms it into beautiful orbs of light. Just like Alexander McQueen’s designs, the tension between beauty and the grotesque is explored as the black bubbles float freely around the space only to be ravenously consumed by you, the viewer. A perfectly silly yet cerebral way of celebrating McQueen’s legacy.
The natural world was fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s most prominent source of inspiration, be that birds, shells or gestating cocoons. Join the V&A for an evening of skins, scales and crystals as they explore the natural elements that were intrinsic to McQueen’s vision.
All events are free and places are designated on a first come, first served basis, unless stated otherwise. Filming and photography will take place at this event.
