There’s an overwhelming number of festivals, acts and places to visit at Wilderness Festival this year. We’ve compiled this A-Z of acts, things to do and places to see so you can make the most of your time. Hope to see you there!
A – AURORA
This 18-year-old from Bergen, Norway, inspires and moves people with her music. Her unique sound and lyrics addressing struggles, love and everything that lies on the emotional spectrum.
B – BJORK
For the artist who needs no introduction, headlining Wilderness festival is a first. Selling over 20 million albums worldwide throughout her career, Bjork’s current album, Vulnicura explores themes of love and heartbreak and follows on from her 7 previous internationally successful records. Expect a dramatic performance, a wild artist and spectacular songs.
C – THE CAROUSEL STAGE
A spinning stage with every genre of music imaginable (think gypsy bass, electro swing and funk) takes centre stage at Wilderness this year. Dress to sweat (covered in glitter of course), there won’t be a minute you’re not dancing.
D – ROLLER ROLLER DISCO
It’s time to bring back what is possibly the most fun you can have on four wheels. Pull your legwarmers out of your dressing-up box and get your disco pants ready for the Roller Roller Disco.
E – EASEL
Ever wanted to learn a new craft? Brand new for this year’s festival, The Wilderness Studio is a beautiful space just for fine arts and crafts. Expert hosts and admired artists will share their knowledge in multiple workshops and intimate sessions, including pom pom making, screen printing and vintage china up-cycling.
F – FORAGING
At some point during the festival you’ll get hungry, so you’ll need to join Hunter Gather Cook, the best foraging and cookery school in the UK. Learn how to spot and cook local and fresh ingredients form the foraging and cookery school that specialise in outdoor adventure, outdoor living and self-sufficiency.
G – GORILLA CIRCUS AERIAL SPECTACLES
Each night, look to the skies for the acrobats and trapeze artists of the Gorilla Circus. Watch them flip, contort and leap above your heads, like there is nothing more natural than being flung through the air.
H – HUNGRY?
Large-scale communal dining has never been so luxurious. Long table banquets and their traditions; four courses for lunch and five courses for dinner. With award-winning Angela Hartnett returning for another year, and Swedish innovator Niklas Ekstedt serving some fine dining, join the canvas banqueting hall for your share of impeccably fine dining.
I – INTIMACY
Intimacy is our greatest privilege, and thanks to beautifully presented workshops taking place, expect to leave with an enhanced ability to choose that which nurtures you. Rohan and Liza, hosts of ‘The Art of Intimacy’ base their work on tantra, so expect to feel totally and one with yourself.
J – THE JUKE JOINT
The Brass Volcanoes have been dubbed “London’s funkiest New Orleans style brass jazz band’, and rightly so. Combining brass, saxophones and drums, these professional jazz musicians work together to create brilliantly funky arrangements of well-known songs. No two performances are ever the same; they make it up on the spot.
K – KISS CHASE
A bird watching club and a dating agency may seem like an odd pair, but with the RSPLB at hand, embark on a quest with their team to offer ornithological and romantically-inspired pursuits.
L – LAKESIDE SPA
Open 8am to midnight, take some time to dip into the spa between your favourite artists. The infamous Lakeside spa complete with wood-fired hot tubs and saunas from Bathing Under The Sky will transport you to a land of pure relaxation outside the excitement of the main festival.
M – MATCH
What could be more raucous than professional weirdos Bearded Kitten attempting to play cricket? As past years have confirmed, expect suspicious umpire decisions, drag and plenty of ridiculous theatrics.
N – NEWSPAPERS – SUNDAY PAPERS LIVE
The Secret Forum’s Sunday Papers Live features poets, politicians, actors and writers covering travel, style, gardening and culture along with a whole host of other topics. This isn’t an ordinary broadsheet.
O – CHAMPAGNE ORANGERY
Take a trip to the 1920s at the Orangery. Emerge yourself in decadence, where you can sip champagne and unwind with sophisticated conversation in a luxurious, flower-bedecked venue.
P – POSTCARDS
Both a performance installation and a public service, The Secret Post Office offers a mail service that circulates post around the festival. Use it to send unique mail items or use their navigation expertise to get in touch with that friend you haven’t seen since yesterday morning….
Q – QUESTIONS AND DEBATES
Back for their fourth year, the Intelligence Squad (the world’s leading forum for exciting debate and intelligent discussion) is back, both live and online. Hosting debates, sometimes featuring some of the most intelligent minds, you’ve got the company of Dan Snow, John Lanchester, Deborah Moggach and Dylan Jones. Try your hand at debating and get inspired.
R – RONNIE SCOTT’S SUNDAY TAKE OVER
Be enraptured by harmonies at notorious jazz mastermind Ronnie Scott’s Sunday takeover at The Grand Spiegel.
S – THE GRAND SPIEGEL
Never seen before at Wilderness, the brand new Grand Spiegel stage is a sensory overload. Bombarding your senses and leading you into temptation make sure you visit this powerful and enticing venue.
T – THE TIGER LILLIES
Alt-legend, punks and enrapturing performers The Tiger Lillies are getting ready to spellbind you at Wilderness. With a reputation for being one of the most avant-garde bands in the world, they won’t fail to surprise, shock and entertain you with their brutal punk edge and enigmatic performances.
U – UNLEASH YOUR HIDDEN FRANK OR SHIRLEY
KARAORKESTA might just be either the best, or worst, idea Wilderness has ever hand. Recruit your fellow festivalgoers, grab the mic and sing your heart out with your 17-piece backing band.
V – THE VALLEY
The secret valley is one of the most enchanting areas of the Wilderness site. Loose yourself in the sky-high trees and winding woodland pathways. Be at one with nature.
W – WILD SWIMMING
Dash from the hot tub into Lake Majestic, set in the centre of the Emerald Lakes. Swim in the crystal clear waters; a post-lunch puddle or a dive before dinner. Whatever time of day, take a dip.
X – EXPLORING YOUR INNER TALENTS
Try your hand a hobbies you never knew existed – fly fishing, long bow archery and stone carving – just make sure to sign yourself up for the workshop.
Y – IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE VALLEY TONIGHT YOU’RE SURE OF A GREAT SURPRISE
Down in the dark and twisted depths, in a valley from long ago, you will find a symposium of lights. Follow your shadow. Look to the moon. It’s a place of deep significance. It’s a place where coincidence makes sense. There is a providence in the fall of the light, a strange quality to the air.
Sudden shadows dance and memories turn between the trees, mingling with the music and the strange figures who have docked there. The Valley is the consequence of a cutting loose.
Expect to hear the likes of Kim Ann Foxman, DJ Harvey, Tom Middleton, Francesca Lombardo, Andy Butler, Antal, DJ Felix Dickinson, PBR Streetgang, Flying Sorcerer, Mojo Filter, Yoms and Ollie Keens.
Z – ZONE OUT
Wilderness is know for striking a balance between relaxation and revelry, So do remember do remember to book yourself into the wilderness wellbeing team whether it’s morning meditation or a trip to the spa. The Wild Wellbeing team curate The Sanctuary as a festival destination. It is home to a beautiful range of highly qualified therapists and complementary health and wellbeing consultants from across the board. Within the village they have a 44ft Yoga Yurt, a Meditation Pod, Wellbeing Workshops and plenty of Food and Fuel options.
