I’m not a kicks aficionado and realistically, unlikely to ever go to Dubai, but these images by artist and photographer Hassan Hajjaj were just too striking not to share.
However, if you are into your trainers there seems to be some interesting events going on. Sole DXB, a two-day festival launched in 2010, returns 20th and 21st November at d3, offering up a dose of street culture, cut with a somewhat rakish Middle Eastern flair.
Having begun life sneaker-focused, Sole DXB has grown into so much more – a melting pot of cultures, passions, styles and logos. The event once again opens its doors to some of the biggest figures from across street industries, including sneakers, hip-hop, basketball and art. Over the two days a series of globally never seen-before-product is set to be unveiled from a score of participating brands such as adidas Originals, Puma Select, and Reebok Classics.
Sole DXB’s own ‘Early Retirement’ pop-up will be on display, selling exclusive collabs with the likes of Puma, Filling Pieces, and New Era. The event Swap & Sale will offer people the opportunity to source a ‘grail’ with fifteen hand-picked regionally-based collectors showcasing their wears.
Music is provided in the shape of with four live headline acts and a host of international and local DJs on rotation. Basketball too plays a key part in the proceedings in the shape of The Sole Ball Above All Classic, an open winner-takes-all tournament made up of 12 teams from the region.
